Editable attributes allow employees to select a segment from a list of given options at the start of the survey, in order to add themselves into a specific group. This article will cover the configuration of this.

Creating an attribute to be used in the survey
First, the attribute and its segment options need to be created. Once done, the segment options will appear alphabetically in the attribute drop down menu when completing a survey.
To create an attribute and its segments:
- Go to Administration > Attributes
- Click on the Add attribute button
- Give the attribute a Name and choose Attribute type (see Introduction to attributes and segments for more on attribute types)
- Review the Data access section, if needed (related resources: About editable attributes and how they work and Restricting access to attributes and segments)
- Review the Advanced setting tab, if needed
- Click on Save changes to save the attribute
- Click on Add segment to start adding the segment options

Enabling editable attributes in the survey
Editable attributes need to be set on a per schedule basis. All employees, regardless of survey channel, will be able to populate their selection instantly (see About editable attributes and how they work for more info and kiosk considerations).
To enable an editable attribute:
- Go to Administration > Schedules
- Click View on the schedule requiring the editable attribute
- Click on the Attributes tab
- Add a customised message in the Message field with any translations, if required
- In the Attribute list, choose an attribute
- Set it to Optional or Required
- Preview the survey to see how the options look on the survey
The attribute is now available in the current or next survey round and will remain there until they are removed from the schedule. They can be re-added at any point, and this will not affect already collected data.
Please note, if you wish to collect attribute data from only one part of the business, a separate schedule will need to be created, or the editable attribute will need to be targeted.
Editing editable attributes
It is possible to add or remove segment options from the editable attribute at any point, however it is recommended to ensure they are set prior to beginning a survey round.
To edit the segment options:
- Go to Administration > Attributes
- Open the specific attribute
- Now you can add, remove or edit the segment options
Removing editable attributes from a survey
- Go to Administration > Schedules
- Click View on the schedule requiring the editable attribute
- Click on the Attributes tab
- Under the Attribute list section, click Remove on the attribute you wish to no longer use in the survey
This will not affect already collected data and it can be re-added at any point.
